The London to Istanbul Bike Adventure is a unique annual Yes to Life fundraising event, inviting participants to join an epic journey across Central Europe. Over the course of five years, participants cycle one leg of the journey during one week of September each year.
Stage 1 – London to Paris Approx 500km – 5 day trip
Stage 2 – Paris – Munich Approx 720km – 7 day trip
Stage 3 – Munich – Budapest Approx 720km – 7 day trip
Stage 4 – Budapest – Bucharest Approx 800km – 8 day trip
Stage 5 – Bucharest – Istanbul Approx 700km – 7 day trip

To book your place, you will need to make a registration payment to Adventure Café of £100. You will then need to raise £900 in sponsorship monies, which is directly payable to Yes to Life. 50% will need to be paid 4 weeks prior to the challenge start date, and the remaining 50% is due 4 weeks after the event.

Cycling from London to Paris, across the English Channel, and through Northern France, and down the Champs Elysées for a victorious arrival at The Eiffel Tower, is just the beginning of this wonderful voyage of discovery across Europe.
Heading East from Paris the Yes to Life Participants will pedal over the border, and through the Black Forest, before meeting the Danube River, and continuing via Munich through to Austria. The adventure steps up a notch as they pedal through the former Iron Curtain and into Slovakia, followed quickly by Hungary and the historic capital of Budapest.
On the fourth and fifth stages, the team will ride through Romania and Bulgaria – before the final “hurrah!” as they cross the most dramatic border into Turkey.
Dipping their wheels in the Bosphorous will mark the end of a monumental challenge, and a fantastic fundraising venture. The question is will this be the end?
Each stage will involve a ride of around 6 or 7 days, and will cover a distance of around 700km. Each team will have a support vehicle in attendance to transfer baggage and to offer assistance in case of difficulty or emergency. Accommodation will be pre-booked as far as is possible and will be simple yet comfortable. Each evening the team leader or driver will select a restaurant that is easy to reach and will offer good, reasonably priced food. Minimum fundraising targets over and above the cost of the trip are still to be confirmed.
The trips are organised by Adventure Café, a small travel agency based in Somerset, and a very trusted company with a long experience of doing these trips. Another good feature is that they take the approach that less is more – so the teams are max 15 people and not 100’s. Richard McLaughlin who owns and runs the company cycled himself from London to Sydney (via Istanbul!), so who better than to guide us through this?

As specialists in the field of challenge adventures, Adventure Café organise treks, bike challenges, climbing adventures and open canoe journeys. They opened their doors on 19th July 2003, with the aim of providing a better access route to adventure.
